"In our sundown perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base', a certain game of ball. Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms, the game of ball is glorious"

Zero problem with Miley pitching the 9th tonight. That was *not* high leverage, and if he had turned it into high leverage, I'm sure the leash was short. A guy like that, either you have a useful piece for the playoffs or you don't, and I'm pretty sure you'd rather find that out now and not in Atlanta. Doubly important to figure it out since pitching out of the pen is something new for him. [Also: don't I make it look easy to be this calm and cool once that game is over, with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight?]
I'd not heard tell of the Brewers being cheaters until MLB was getting close to announcing the Astros's punishment in late Jan/early Feb this year, but one of my good friends lives in Milwaukee and said there was a bit of hand-wringing going on.... specifically, as far as Reds' fans would be concerned, you could look at Luis Castillo's starts against the Brewers, and add that to the pile of circumstantial evidence. Don't remember specifically, but it was something like two 7-inning 1-hitters at GABP and 2 games where he couldn't get out of the 4th inning at Miller Park.
But then, MLB decided it would be best to not focus on how widespread the cheating was, brought the hammer down on Cora, and everybody else got a pass. C'est la vie....

Rick, good thoughts, and yes normally 5 run lead in 9th not high leverage.
But this wasn’t any normal game. This was an absolute must win. Two base runners would have made it high leverage, and the best way to close a game out in that scenario is preventing it from being high leverage. Iggy has been dynamite, but he has blown up twice this year, and several times last year. It does happen, and I don’t think
It was an appropriate time to risk creating an opportunity for it to happen after our offense finally put some runs on the board.
