What's with the love of low OBP guys in the 2 spot?

I was hoping to see more of Votto but with Mulder starting I was already thinking Cantu at first.

It is good that Hamilton is getting a start against a lefty. With Mulder coming off an injury and (reportedly) soft-tossing maybe Josh can bang out a few hits and improve his chances of playing against lefties next year.

I wonder what holds EE back from ever getting a spot higher up in the lineup.
The OBP is there (.350) and he certainly can run.

    Cantu
    vR: 959 PA, .279/.318/.454, .772 OPS
    vL: 397 PA, .263/.295/.447, .742 OPS

Right there with using Mike Stanton as a LOOGY. Who cares about actual performance, platoon splits are universal, right?

I don't care that he's playing, Votto had big big splits in the minors. But really:

    EE vL: 369 PA, .258/.357/.427, .784 OPS
    Ross vL: 349 PA, .235/.305/.497, .802 OPS

    and for fun.....
    Hopper vL: 130 PA, .398/.429/.508, .937 OPS

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I've seen that. I bothers me that "someone" is thinking about Cantu as the RH portion of a 1B platoon in 2008.

I would love nothing more than to sweep the Cardinals and ruin any hope of them reaching the playoffs. Go Reds! Go Brewers!

Eckstein must have stole some of Ankiel's HGH.

Cantu bloops a single to right.

Cantu has four walks and only one strikeout in 23 atbats. If he can continue to improve on his plate discipline then he could turn out to be a pretty good pickup.
