The most disappointing difference in this offense to me has been the lack of walks. It makes sense though because why would you walk guys who miss fastballs down the pipe constantly. Just crazy how much better the offense was last year.

Exactly. It's not like dudes are pitching around the Reds. Right at 'em. Especially Votto. They seem to know he's completely feeble now.

One thing I have noticed is that other teams seem to take advantage of the shift at times, but rarely do I ever see Reds hitters do the same thing.

I expect to win....I expect the team to do everything within reason to win every game every night......if that is not what everyone expects, then why waste my time supporting team?

Because they are coming from the depths. There’s a limit on reasonable expectations. They’re trying, they’re better, but just not that good yet. If that’s unsatisfactory, so be it, but it’s the harsh reality.

When you have a top 3 pitching staff, expectations should be a bit higher I think.

And when you have one of the league’s worst offenses, what should the expectations be then?

You have to look at the whole picture, somethings better than expected, others worse. They are 20 -25, in position to have an improved year. I think that’s reasonable progress, next year hopefully things even better.

I freaking hate to say it but I just don’t see this group ever getting over that “few games to 500” hump. They can’t string more than two wins together, and the worst part....there is ZERO sense of urgency.

I think overall the league has caught up with some of the Reds’ hitters. How they are being pitched, how they are being defended.

That’s the problem IMO plus the absence of Scooter who was one of their two best bats last year.

It's starting to look like a pattern. To me that points to a philosophy. Theres no way the league just figured out 70% of the hitters all of the sudden. Not saying I'd fire the guy but Ward needs to be feeling some heat at the least.
