They had a terrible MLB team for years. They weren’t going to turn it into a solid, winning team in one off season. Anyone who thought they could has been hoodwinked, imo.

I don’t see any of the recent moves as moves that indicate they will continue to build upward and sustain better play YoY

Wood and puig are half year rentals

    Sonny is a #4

Next year they are going to be 95 loss club again without drastic moves

Paul Goldschmidt for 5 years on that contact. That will set the cards up to win and really compete (like they already always do)

Sounds like you should be a Cardinals fan. Or maybe you already are?

They made the moves this offseason without giving up much in terms of prospects, or adding payroll.

They could easily make similar moves next season, or even this mid season.

Anyone who thinks that was a good trade and extension is a cards fan.

And once they lose the players and make another similar set of moves in 2020

They still play 74-77 win ball

    Their upside is nil

They have prospects coming up and developing to add to the mix. Also, once they feel like they have a soldi base, they can start making more aggressive moves. They still have a lot of bullets in their chamber.

The organization is well situated for future success.

And would still be below .500. The entire point is they need to make moves to actually win, not minimally fill holes. .

They will also have a ton of money to spend to extend those players or sign others. Plus two best position player prospects will likely be ready later this year and next.

What moves do you suggest the Reds make with the extra money and in trades at the deadline and I. The off-season?

Rumor is that the Reds made a credible run at trading for James Paxton.

Yeah. I remember when I almost won the lottery. Only missed by 5 little numbers.

Terrible analogy. Lottery is pure luck. Pulling off a trade involves many other people acting in concert with you and your needs. The fact that they were able to make other positive moves should instil hope that they are able to make bigger ones.
