Your Cincinnati Reds started their August with a resounding win over the Mets, kicking off what’s going to be a really important stretch if this team has any shot at overtaking San Diego (4 back) or even Milwaukee (7 back) for a playoff spot. Nineteen of the next 20 games are against teams with a losing record; I want to see them go 21-8 through this stretch and really close those gaps. The opponents through Sept. 2 are:

On June 1, the Reds were four games under .500. Since then, they’re 32-22 and got into the playoff race.

Looks to me the Padres have the easier schedule. 16 of their 26 games are against bad teams. Reds Brewers are basically even. Bottom line is that the Reds just need to win and win some more and hope one of those two go into a tailspin.

The Reds only have 4 of their next 29 games against teams with a winning record. They’re all similarly soft. The difference between the three is the Brewers and Padres have somewhat tougher schedules in September while the reds continue to play bad teams.

Almost as bad as the 1-5 mark against Arizona.

The biggest thing in my mind is the Reds have got to play better at home, specifically in regards to pitching. They’ve been really strong on the road but giving up way too many runs at home. Hopefully the revamped bullpen is a solution for that, and guys like Mahle need to take a step forward.

Almost as bad as the 1-5 mark against Arizona.

I would argue that considering the opponent it is worse, and the Reds record/performance against the west will be a telling stat at the end of the season of the Centrals final standings

Water under the bridge, but even .333 ball against those teams and the Reds might be a little more in control of their playoff destiny right now.

Except the Padres have a tough September. Their tough schedule begins around August 20th, Phils, then Dodgers, and picks up again in September with Astros, and lots of Dodgers and Giants.

Pads do have a rather easy next 2 1/2 weeks. Reds must stick with them during that stretch. But Reds have a large scheduling advantage over the Pads in Sept.

True, but it's nice to have a glimmer of hope in August, that's kind of a new experience as Reds fans

The Reds are only 3 back in the loss column to the Padres. That's easily attainable. We just have to keep playing the same ball we've been the last 8 weeks. If we do that everything will take care of itself. In the case of the Reds winning 90 games and not getting a playoff spot you just have to tip the cap to the other teams. It's exhausting to nitpick over every game and scenario. Keep winning series and play .600 or better ball and let the chips fall where they may.

yea, the GAB's propensity to give up home runs gives us some exciting come back wins, but also a lot of sad blown leads too.
