Baseball America had him at #4, Baseball Prospectus at #10, MLB at #10. That’s right in line with where Senzel was.

And remember, Hunter Greene was considered a once in a generation prospect at age 17 as well.
The difference is Franco has ripped apart A and A+ and is still only 18 years old. Greene has done almost nothing professionally to live up to his hype.

I'm not trying to be aggressive but anyone on here who thinks Franco is overrated/valued by some of us should really read up on the kid. It's ridiculous how good he is/could be. There's a reason he's #1 above other studs like Lux and Robert.

    Thanks for the correction.

But again, he’s 18, in single A, and MLB history is full of 18 year old “ can’t miss” prospects who miss. It’s not that he’s underrated, it’s that he’s only 18. So much can happen between now and when he’s ready for the majors.

It would seem to be a step backward since they already have Castellini, which I assume is the plural.

    Re: Reds interested in Castellanos

I can't imagine Wander Franco is available at all.

That said, I'm reminded at times like these of something I read not too long ago on this very board:

If I have a diamond in my left hand, and you try to pay me for it by putting a turd in my right hand, not only am I going to turn you down, I'm not going to be swayed by you putting more and more turds into my hand.

Basically, that means deals where the Reds give up their top 5 prospects for Franco just aren't realistic at all. That's not how major league teams operate.

Are top prospects traded? Yes, of course. But they're traded for players like Aroldis Chapman and Chris Sale. That means if the Reds want Franco, they're going to have to give up Castillo or Gray. And I sure don't want the Reds to do that.

History is not full of can't miss prospects who destroy A ball as an 18 year old and miss. He's probably ready for the majors now in all honesty.

yeah, can we get back to this? sounds like the price tag has plummeted and i hope the reds take advantage. come in with the best offer. explain to him the plan for the reds to be a winning organization. tell him how much he's wanted. recruit him like a college football coach would recruit a 5-star recruit (right down to the money and everything for SEC players ... i kid, i kid).

Tell him he doesn’t have to eat the chili if he doesn’t want to. He can have the ribs or the Graeter’s.

I was surprised at how solid Castellanos' numbers are overall. His glove has sucked in the OF, but his offensive and base-running numbers have boosted his WAR to around 3.0 the last two years.

That's real production even if it does result in poor OF defense.

I'm wondering if its not the amount of money but the overall attractiveness of the Reds. I wanted Dellin Betances badly but realize that he wanted to be in NYC badly so he wasn't really even an option. It's going to stink if Castellanos takes a deal with another team and we hear the same kind of thing that we did with Ozuna.

I am not sure. Playing short in slow pitch softball can get pretty dicey. Balls get blasted at you at third and short. I retired to the outfield when I turned 40.

Here is the quote if you don't want to click the link.

"For the second consecutive year, there is consensus among Baseball America staffers when it comes to the No. 1 prospect in baseball.

Rays wunderkind Wander Franco remains in the top spot, which he assumed last season after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. graduated "
Buxton had that same designation. I recall readding that senzel for him was an overpay because he had one bad season.

Sometimes we overhype our own. No one disagrees the Reds need an upgrade at SS. Cleveland isn't trading Lindor unless they are out of it come July 31. I actually like Galvis defensively, and think he brings plenty of pop to the position. But he can't find 1B with a map, and this team as constructed has a real OBP issue.
    Dubito Ergo Cogito Ergo Sum.
