    Here We Go Again

In an interview with Jim Gray for his Fox News special, "Talking to GOATs with Jim Gray," former Cincinnati Reds great and Hit King Pete Rose called betting on baseball - which Rose said he now does legally at casinos - was the only mistake he's ever made, and suggested as he has before that he doesn't think he'll be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame as long as he's alive.

Yes, Pete Rose, man with two felonies on his record that he plead guilty to, the only mistake he ever made was gambling on baseball.

Put Bonds, Clemens, Ramirez, Shoeless Joe, Rose, etc. in the HOF and be done with it. Focus entirely on on-field production.

I’m not convinced that Doug isn’t a bot set to instantly respond anytime Rose is brought up.

My thought as well. Maybe bygones and all that. It's been 20 years.

Fortunately I'm at the lowest levels of sort of a public figure. I've been on TV as me, I've been on radio as me, I've been printed in national newspapers and magazines as me.... so I can at least claim I'm not a bot. People actually know me from before all of my stupidity online.

However, I literally laughed that I just happened to check Redszone like 1 minute after this thread went live. It was like the internet Gods were looking out for me

I find it a little ridiculous that they refuse to put Joe Jackson in a museum about baseball because of a crime committed a century ago. Literally everyone involved is dead. Jackson's been dead for 70 years. At this point who is it punishing?

I agree, the problem here is that baseball as a whole has enshrined these acts, the Black Sox scandal, Roses gambling, the steroid era etc. in their own right. Honestly as popular as these scandals are in the legacy of the MLB they might as well have their own separate wing in the HOF, treat it like 80's & 90's video stores used to treat their adult sections and call it "The Hall of Shame".

    Re: Here We Go Again

Pete's only mistake was that he got caught cheating before it was ok to cheat.

If this all blew up now, he'd be fined some crazy amount, payable directly to Manfred's bank account, and that would be that. He'd be in the HoF, and be on the payroll for some team, advising them how to cheat best.

Rose basically got grandfathered into getting applicably punished for cheating. I'd be salty if I was Rose too. Now let's take a 30 second break between innings... we'll be back after this message from Miami Valley Gaming.

The only mistake he ever made? The biggest mistake he ever made (beside having a sexual relationship for years with a 14 year girl old back in the 70's}, in my opinion was lying for years and years and making all his fans like me look stupid for defending him. Fast forward 20 years and he will sign a baseball for $100 that says I bet on baseball. I loved the way he played hard and he was my #1 sports hero as a kid.
As far as believing that he doesn't think he will never get elected to the hall of fame all I can say is "well deserved Pete, well deserved."

They're punishing Pete Rose. If they put Jackson in the Hall, how can they justify leaving Rose out? What Jackson is accused of is much worse than Rose. Rose was accused of an act that could POSSIBLY compromise the integriy of the game, Jackson is accused of ACTUALLY compromising the integrity of the game.
