Forgive me for asking something ignorant, but why is St.Louis a higher seed this us when we both finished 2nd? Shouldn't they have to play the games at Detroit? Wouldn't these games be very meaningful as it could determine who gets the higher seed between the two teams?
I don't understand why they are ranked higher and did so by getting an advantage of playing 2 days less.
What am I missing here? Is MLB just saying fairness doesn't matter?

MLB said from beginning winning % would determine standings. Further, they said all along that the extra games would be played ONLY if it affected who made or missed playoffs OR if it affected home field in wild card round. It turned out that the only thing it would have determined was who played Padres and who played Braves. Not consequential enough to make them play those games.
It’s not unfair to us; had STL lost today we would have finished ahead of them even though they still could have passed us by playing the two extra games. I view it as a non-issue and not anything unfair to us.

I don’t mind STL skipping the Detroit games but I did get to thinking.
Why did the DBacks and Rockies play their final “meaningless series” in the wake of COVID?
I know it wasn’t easy to come up with the COVID rules but I’d argue STL-Det was more meaningful than Dbacks-Rox.

I’m good with noon games, crowd will be quiet and should eliminate some of the home field advantage.
Shoulda known the Damn Yankees would play in prime time both Tuesday and Wednesday

I think the difference is simply the St. Louis / Detroit series would have went beyond the set parameters of the season, and impacted St. Louis in preparation for the playoffs. Nearly half of the games in all of professional sports during the last month are meaningless....but you still play out the schedule.

It would be kind of hilarious if the NL Central went 0-4.
Obviously I’m rooting hard for the Red, but that would be pretty crazy.
What would you say.....ya do here?
