    It's really a mystery on what has happened to Christian Yelich. The only major stat he is leading Joey Votto in is batting average and that is not a lot to brag about. Seems like when the big pay check comes for some of these guys, we find out those great seasons were a flash in the pan. Cody Bellinger is another example.

    Reds take two of three games from the Brewers and have a 6-1-1 record in their last eight series

    Most remarkable stat of this season is that Hunter Strickland has 7 saves.

    The middle of the Brewers lineup took 10 swings at Alexis Díaz's slider in the eighth inning. Seven whiffs, three fouls and zero balls in play.

    Díaz has retired 25 of the 29 batters he's faced since returning from the IL with 10 strikeouts.

    I try to not be so hard on Strickland. He really shouldn't be in this position of having to close. It was a good game all in all. You can't ask much more than for Ashcraft to match the Brewers Ace and the offense to get some timely hits and take advantage of the error in the 10th.

    Joel Luckhaupt
    @jluckhaupt

    Ross Detwiler is the 9th Red to record a save this year.

    The franchise record is 10, set all the way back in 2021.

    And today was his 4th blown save. Not a good success rate.

    Closers are like field goal kickers. They have to deliver when the game is on the line. Time to DFA.

    I've seen enough of Solano to offer him a 1 year contract in the off season if the price is right.

    What Lance McAlister thinks of Strickland

    LanceMcAlister
    @LanceMcAlister

    At some point Reds will concede what Strickland offers off field is not enough to offset the kick in the balls he offers this team on field.

    I'm not predicting that Alexis Diaz can be another Mariano Rivera, but Rivera averaged 58 appearances per season over a 19-year career and collected a ML record 652 saves and won 82 games. If the Reds are ever going to be a championship caliber organization they need to have a dependable closer who can help them win games, and to me that means Diaz needs to be the closer.
