Schadenfreude is not really my thing, as you'd likely find major infractions virtually everywhere if you look closely enough. That said, as far as Duke is concerned (see Corey Maggette and Lance Thomas, for example) where there is smoke, there is assuredly fire, and it goes without saying that they've been skating away on the thin ice of a new day-ay-ay for far too long now.

yeah, there is a lot of smoke over the years there....and I do not "hate" Duke, but it seems like some programs smoke attracts immediate attention while other programs "smoke" derive little to no attention. There are conspiracy theorists out there that believe within 1-2 years of Coach K retiring, Duke will get hammered. I do believe every program has infractions, and quite honestly they probably should if they are trying to compete. That said, I do believe the pool of schools that are utilizing the shoe companies to compensate recruits to acquire them is fairly small. For example, WVU is a competitive program that is a Nike school....but they are lucky if Nike even views them in their Top 25 CBB clients, and definitely are not sending players to Morgantown.

WVU was fortunate that they had the same foster family taking in Oscar Tshiebwe that took in Sagaba Konate. My understanding is that was the difference in pulling him to WVU over UK (plus Huggs had been recruiting him longer).

The NCAA lost all credibility with the UNC diploma mill. They will probably try to make an example out of Kansas to make up for it especially with Pay to Play being in the news but I think Kansas and Self aren’t going down without a fight even though they are guilty as sin.

No, they were right on that one. It's not their job to police the academic rigor of a college. If a school wants to embarrass itself by letting its entire student body have access to joke classes, that's a matter for the academic accreditation bodies, not the NCAA.

If you know the hammer is coming, you can either do one of two things:

    1. Lay low, comply, and do whatever you can to prevent further damage.

    2. Deny any rule breaking and become defiant.

What does KU do? They brought Minardi Hall to Phog Allen.

my understanding is Kansas was worried it would hurt their brand.....Snoop was using fake Snoop $ in the cannons, and everyone knows when Kansas starts distributing large sums of cash in Phog Allen, it is 100% untraceable US Currency.

The Champions Classic is going to be the top 4 AP teams. That’s gotta be a first.

Kinda wonder if Michigan State losing in a scrimmage to Gonzaga factored into anything?

    ESPN has to love that.

Do you think Michigan State will pummel Kentucky as bad as Duke did last season?

I don't, but I do expect MSU to beat them fairly soundly.

Kentucky has enough upperclassmen to play with experience (Hagans and Quickley in the backcourt, Richards, Sestina, and Montgomery across the frontcourt), but the freshmen (especially Juzang, Brooks, and Maxey) are needed for scoring punch and shooting. Only Rocket Watts and Malik Hall are freshmen who will crack Izzo's top nine.

Unless Kentucky has a good day shooting (which is possible), the Spartans should come out ahead by 10 - 15.

I’m a bit more optimistic but I think Kentucky will keep it closer than people expect and possibly could win.

A lot depends on how big a leap the returnees make, specifically Hagans, Quickley, and Montgomery.

From what I am hearing and seeing is that MSU's Langford is out at least until mid January with the foot issue. Big hit for Sparty.

While the world slept, college basketball snuck up on everyone. XU hosts Jacksonville tonight. KY and Michigan State kick things off in the Gardens on ESPN. The Bearcats travel up to Columbus to take on tOSU tomorrow night. Dayton waits until the weekend to kick off their season, when they play the Sycamores of Indiana State.
