Thom sounds like some Redszone posters with his constant talk about Chapman in the rotation.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

That specific situation doesn't come up that often, and right now Aroldis should be limited to his usual situation. Don't want any injuries, nothing unusual.

More generally, the eighth inning thing is certainly possible, but it does leave Hoover as your ninth inning closer. I have no objection to it.

It does ask Aroldis to pitch out of his comfort zone. Which may be no big deal. It may be a big deal. Don't know.

But the bottom line for me is that I want a closer, two good set up men, and a fourth guy usable when someone is tired. That's the best way to solve this problem IMO.

Wouldn't we all? I think it was the Nasty Boys who invented the 7th, 8th, 9th roles.

I just want the best reliever against the best hitters.

Was just kinda following on my phone.

Wasn't Rodriguez the one that got all crazy when the benches cleared in our last game? Any intent on Chapman hitting him?

doubtful. It was down and in, hit him on the foot.

For those of you with MLB TV, I recommend watching the top of the 9th while listening to the Pirates' radio feed if you're into schadenfreude.

"Come here to Cincinnati and lose to the Reds....huh"

Reds are 10-4 vs. the Pirates this year, fwiw.
