Rockies extend Senzatela for $50M/5yrs :X...that's a lot of coin for a guy with an ERA+ of 108 this year and 102 career.

Pretty crazy for a team in the one game wild card to be World Series favorites! I suspect they'll go from +400 to more like +250 if they win tomorrow night.

That's a spectacular contract for the Rox. Breaks out to $7.2M for each of the next two years and $12M per season for 2024-26, and there's a $14M option for 2027. He's 26 and has shown he can survive their murder-for-pitchers park. That will take him through age 31. He's almost a duplicate of Tyler Mahle in terms of age, service time and current contract. Mahle's slightly ahead in terms of his overall numbers and his peak performance (this season). The Reds should be working overtime to get Mahle onto that kind of contract.

No chance in hell Mahle signs a similar extension.

Also, if the Dodgers win the Wild Card and then beat the Giants in the first round, who gets home field advantage in the NLCS? Braves/Brewers as division champs or Dodgers due to superior record? I'll be in Milwaukee on Saturday the 23rd, so this is more than just curiousity!

Home-field advantage in this best-of-seven series (Games 1-2 and 6-7) goes to the Division Series winner with the higher regular-season winning percentage, but never a Wild Card team.

Probably not, because (again) that is a great deal for the Rox and you can't assume every 26-year-old pitcher is going to follow suit. Yet they should be making every effort to see what kind of extension they can get him to sign. FWIW, Mahle's not making $7.2M next year if he goes through arbitration. So there is an opportunity to see if they can entice him with more up front money.

Reds can't do that with a pitcher.

A Mahle extension would probably look something like 6,12,18,18,18,18,18 give or take a mil or two per season and maybe plus or minus a season. I’d have to spend some significant time looking at FA comps and arb comps to be more secure in an estimate. But you can rest assured it would be significantly more than Senzatela’s extension.

I'm wondering if there's a midpoint between that and the Senzatela deal, e.g. 6/75. That would break out to 7.5, 7.5, 15, 15, 15, 15. Maybe you put a player option on that last 15.
