In 607 innings career-wise (I believe only minors) Sampson has allowed 302 walks.

In the minors this year he had 82.2 innings and 46 walks.

In the majors 2015 before tonight he had 31 innings and 16 walks.

Tonight is one five inning stint so far. But this is a significant problem. And usually when a pitcher is that walk prone it indicates a greater command issue.

Only in one of those seasons in the minor was he used in relief. He's not a starter, not at the big league level. But he has a live arm and a good curve. Try him in the pen. You've been one of the biggest proponents of overhauling the bullpen with the Reds plethora of starters.

    Yes Thom, it's mostly luck.

I would put Sampson at AAA next year and tell him to become a relief pitcher down there and cut the walks out.

I do want better relievers, but not walk machines.

LOL, if the command is not there you eventually give up a grand slam.

Who is calling that pitch? Even Thom knew what pitch needed to be thrown and you can hear Brantley's head exploding. Terrible

Sampson ERA is now 6.94. But who's counting.
