Reds Sign RP Nate Jones to Minor Leage Deal

Seems like a great low risk, potentially high reward, signing for the back of the pen.

Good move. If he can stay healthy, its an impact move.

    He probably won't stay healthy.

    Keep looking for an upgrade.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Bauer claims to be immune to injury due to flawless mechanics. Maybe Boddy can fix Jones?

Jones is as good as they come when he's on the mound.

    He's rarely on the mound.

This is where, IMO, Boddy and Cotham might prove their worth-- smoothing the mechanics, fixing the elbow torque.

If Jones can pitch more than 30 innings, he'll be a phenomenal pick-up. If he only pitches 20, he's still decent depth for a time.

6.4 WAR in 290 Innings over his career....great if he can stay healthy.

This is the potential low cost diamond in the rough I talked about before. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to fix your pen, you just have to have a shrewd front office. Health obviously is a risk with this guy, but the reward could be huge.

I can’t tell you how much I disagree with this post.

The last thing the Reds need is to add perennially injured players. It’s a roll of the dice, if that’s how you want to build a team.

Minor league deals are no risk deals. If a player does well in spring training he is added to the roster. If not, he is released with nothing lost. Jones has talent and is a good pitcher when healthy. This is a good move for the Reds.

He said he couldn't tell us, I think we should respect that. It's obviously something very private, maybe about his sister?

So you’re a spring training results person. Good luck with that.

Counting on perennially injured players is not the way to advance the Reds to winning status.

This is a fine move if you have zero expectations and an otherwise loaded bullpen with healthy pitchers.

If Jones looks good and healthy out of ST the Reds offer him a contract and keep the last guy out of the 'pen (presumably a guy with options) down at AAA. If he gets injured on opening day, the Reds call up said AAA guy.

The only thing at risk is a bit of money.

Disingenuous. All you have to look for is whether or not he’s healthy and throwing well. Pretty simple. No one’s making a case for spring stat competitions.
