The DSL playoffs are underway.
The DSL Reds have split the first two games in the series. They won the opener 2-0 behind the stellar pitching of Jose Franco (5 IP), Eddy Alcantara (1 IP), Nestor Lorant (2 IP) and Andry Cuevas (1 IP). Franco has been the staff ace this season, compiling a 2.20 ERA in 57.1 innings on the mound. He has struck out 59, and yielded one lone home run. Cuevas has been the team's closer this season, and did the job once again, striking out the side in the 9th. He has allowed just 19 hits over 43.2 innings.
Offensively, Wilmer Alcantara singled and doubled twice. He also stole a base. Junior Tamares singled and walked. Alcantara, just 17, has come on strong late in the season. After OPSing .612 in June, and .509 in July, he scorched DSL pitching for an OPS of 1.058 in the month of August.
The DSL Reds fell in the second game of the series 4-3. Martin Salazar was let down by his defense, allowing 4 runs over 5 innings of work, but just one of them was earned. Elkyn Chirinos came out of the pen and posted 3 hitless innings.
Junior Melo was the man at the plate, going 3 for 4.
