I'm voting to pitch around Cabrera.

Cody Ross had two monster games.

    The other 93 he's been good for a .272 obp, .217 BA, 8 dingers and 31 ribbies and a slg. under .400.

It is amazing that if certain things fall into place, and the Reds can win both of the final two series'....they can make the playoffs.

Probably a long shot...but stranger things have happened, but it's at least going to be fun this last week....at least to start.

Unlike the Reds, the Marlins lineup is stacked. No many places to go when you start pitching around this lineup. About the only positive we can point to in this series is that Florida's park is a pitcher's park.

    It's a hole past Jacobs.

WE HAVE TO sweep the Pirates.
We need to sweep the Marlins.

Yeah the Reds lineup has two pronounced holes at either end of their lineup and ton of underperforming players in the middle.

Florida's 1-5 is brutal. Nothing in the Reds lineup is brutal--well, brutally bad.

The Reds absolutely positively have to run the table for a shot. The Astros are blazingly hot and facing crap teams.

Luckily, the Reds and Cards don't play each other this week....otherwise there would be absolutely no shot whatsoever.

I'm not holding my breath, but at least there's some excitement going into the final week of the year.

That's just it -- I think the Astros are due to cool down. They have Pettitte going tonight against Snell, and I actually give Pittsburgh the pitching edge there at this moment...Jason Hirsch against Chacon tomorrow, also a toss-up...and when the Astros don't have a pitching edge, they're doomed. I just don't think they're going to win the next six straight.

I don't think this means anything for the Reds' chances, mind you. Houston aside, too many other teams have to fall out for the wild card, and as for the division, I'm not counting on both Houston AND St. Louis to do that badly. I want the Reds to finish in second in the division though; to have third down in the record books after being in second more or less all season would be disgraceful given their competition through the end of the season.

One of the more cogent and brutally honest statements I've read in a while.
