The day to sign international free agents was moved last year and is apparently still on, despite the lockout.
That's good news for Cincinnati, as they are rumored to have unofficially signed three of MLB's top 50 international prospects: 17-year-old SS Ricardo Cabrera (3), Venezuelan 17-year-old SS Anthuan "El Capitan" Valencia (32), and 17-year-old Panamanian RF Esmith Pineda (49).
Cabrera is said to have a "60" hit tool, with all other tools at 55. He projects to be able to play SS, but should he fill out, may also be able to play 3B.
Velencia's best tools are his power (55) and fielding (55) at the SS position. Or perhaps it's his leadership skills.
Pineda has a history of success on the international stage, showing precocious pop. His best tool is his 55 arm, a prerequisite for RF.
