Ok, I'm bored - or - why I think the WBC should be in the Summer.

Ok, it bothered me and it took me an hour. The kids are still awake, but hey its Friday night....

I have written my opinion for the WBC where it can get max exposure. It also will be played in the lower 48 states and not all over the world.

I think the whole WBC thing is a great idea - but I am afraid, due to the professional baseball season, that it will never work due to the schedule that has been chosen.

It might also be an idea to play it in November. It might lower the playing fields for the Winter Leagues though. Many of the Latin American countries really take to the Winter Leagues.

    Here's my thought anyway:

First Round - 3 game series – seeded

    A – West (Mon-Wed)
2 China vs 3 Chinese Taipei - SF
    4 Korea v. 1 Japan - Seattle

    B – North (Tues-Thurs)
    2 Canada v 3 Mexico –Pilot Park - Buffalo
4South Africa vs 1 Puerto Rico – Shea

    C –Southeast (Mon-Wed)
    1Cuba v. 4 Netherlands - Miami
    3 Panama v. 2 Dominican Republic - Atlanta

    D – Midwest (Tues-Thurs)
    3 Australia v. 2 Venezuela – Comiskey
    4 Italy v. 1 USA – Cincinnati

Second Round - Winners of Each Series (1 game) Fri & Sat

    Pool A - Los Angeles - Fri
    Pool B – Yankee Stadium – Sat
    Pool C - Houston - Fri
    Pool D – Detroit – Sat

Finals – Monday – St. Louis

    Pool A vs. Pool B – 4pm
    Pool C vs. Pool D – 8pm

    Tues. – Consolation – 4pm
    Championship 8pm

    2006 WBC – Held June 26-July 4 (everyone gets off day 5th)

Monday – following Wednesday off day = loss of 10 days = with 2 off days = 7 games lost. (No games Sun Night on June 25th)

All games on the ESPN/Fox family of networks (also included for all MLBEI subscribers)

NO ALL STAR GAME – World Series home determined by best record in the regular season. If CHW has 105 wins and ATL has 104 – The AL would have the home field for the All-star game.

    Discuss amongst yourselves.

Some people play baseball. Baseball plays Jay Bruce.

    I agree.

Also, it seems to me that the Winter Olympics would gain more exposure if they played them in the summer.

Move them to the summer and the amount of cities that can bid gets cut in half, Vancouver would be screwed.

If MLB has the WBC in the summer then their big reason for not sending MLB players to the summer games would be gone.
