Re: Garnett to Celtics

As someone who has followed the Celtics, I have to say I am very disappointed if this deal goes down.

Garnett is aging and not somebody that IMO is worth gutting the entire team for. He might be a marquee player, but he is likely going into a worse team now than he is leaving in Minnesota.

Have to figure that if the Celtics have a high draft pick next year(and they will) that OJ Mayo might want to pack warm.

Re: Garnett to Celtics

Would Rondo be a starter on that new squad?

Re: Garnett to Celtics

Now all Minnesota has to do is get rid of McHale and they can become a playoff team in 08-09.

The Celtics are immediate contenders in the East, provided they get people that breathe to fill out the roster. Not having to part with Rondo in the deal is a huge bonus.

Re: Garnett to Celtics

In my opinion, the Celtics would have been better off trading Pierce and building around Jefferson, Green, Rondo, and the Pierce return. This may make them relevant in the East for the next 3 years, but they are still nowhere close to beating SA, PHX, or DAL in a seven game series.

Re: Garnett to Celtics

I know this trade is a good-hearted attempt to re-build, but the Wolves will have a tough year. Foye, Ricky Davis, Corey Brewer, Al Jefferson, Gerald Green and Mark Blount? Who will that team beat in the West?
And for the Celts, think of how little you will see the ball if you're not Allen, Garnett or Pierce. Who is gonna like setting picks on every possession without ever seeing the ball. The Celts better win in the next couple of years.

I disagree.

In the NBA, moreso than any other sport, the team that gets the best player usually ends up winning the trade. Garnett is the best player in this deal by a country mile.

The Celts shifted into 'win right now' mode when they acquired Jesus Shuttlesworth, and this trade is merely the logical next step in that plan. It doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense to wait for the kids to develop when your two star guards are both on the back nine of their careers. Jefferson is a solid player right now, but the rest of those guys are just developmental projects who MIGHT be good a few years down the road. Why gamble on their potential when you have a chance to land a sure thing?

The Celtics just acquired a bellcow post player for a handful of magic beans.

Brian Scalabrine and a bunch of rookies, that's who.

Re: Garnett to Celtics

Garnett aging? He is only 31. No injury history, in fantastic shape. He will be a top player for 4-5 more seasons IMO, and a good layer for maybe 2 years after that. I could honestly see him in the league until he hits 40, but I think that depends on if they win a championship.

It is alot to give up for KG, but it makes the Celtics a very interesting team. They need to find a bench -- immediately. If they can land a role player or two I think they will be fine.

Rondo
Allen
Pierce
KG
Perkins

That is a very good starting 5. If they could find a couple good defensive players with their MLE they should be set.

That's exactly my view of it.

Bingo.

He is the perfect fit for a team that is already built around two wing players who are about the same age. Allen, Pierce and Garnett are all at the tail-end of their primes and should be a solid nucleus for a (L)eastern conference contender for the next three to five years.
