Pete Mackanin, very very interesting

Did anyone catch this yesterday. After Ludwick for St.Louis hit his second HR yesterday Brantley said that the guy has hit everything low very hard and that the Reds must have a bad advance scout not to see that. Guess who is the advance scout...Pete Mackanin. It'll be interesting to hear Jeff Rantly's opinion of ouR new manager.

Well...Mackanin won't be the advance scout anymore.

Brantley says it... doesn't mean anything. An advanced scout (or any scout for that matter) can give a 100% accurate report. Doesn't mean the scout is the one chuckin' the ball from 60'6" and not able to control where the ball ends up being when it ends up at home plate. The six walks allowed in yesterday's game tells me that. Having a guy on the mound who gave up that 2nd Ludwick HR that is 30-something/just up from AAA, once gave up the game b/c he didn't think he had it anymore... tells me that.

I honestly cannot assess the REDS scouting department. However, I can give an assessment of the pitching staff... and it ain't good.

Do they have more than one advanced scout?

Jeff Brantley King of the off the cuff opinions, perfect announcer for the Reds and their fans.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brantley already knew through the grapevine who the next manager was going to be, disapproved of the choice, and thought he would insert a dig into his commentary that only people in the know would catch. He forgot that some people actually listen to and remember the things he says for more than an inning.

The Reds relievers have looked like they've had no approach, good or bad, except "grip it and rip it" (Majewski quote).
