Ellen Degeneres leaves 'Idol'

Today, Degeneres unexpectedly quit the show after one season into her 5-year contract with Fox.

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/...ry?id=11283713

She cited a more grueling schedule and inability to be as critical of contestants as the job demanded for the reasons why she has left.

In related news, there have been reports that Idol has been chasing Elton John and Justin Timberlake, among others, to take over for Simon Cowell's vacant position. Those two, for monetary and availability reasons, are considered longshots. I've read that Harry Connick Jr. remains a strong candidate--as does Nigel Lythgoe who is reportedly joining the producer staff for the upcoming season.

I'll be a judge. I'm not doing anything right now. I once judged a lip synch contest, that gives me at least some experience.

Sounds to me that if you have access to implants and skimpy clothing, you are immediately qualified to join Britney on tour

Reports are that Kara has been fired and AI is looking to go to a three person panel that will include Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. I forgot to copy the link, but this was on TMZ.

She simply wasn't qualified to judge a contest established to find a singing star. The judges didn't "specialize" in various aspects of what it takes to be a musical artist so she really brought nothing to the table other than being a fan.

Simon was seen as overly harsh at times but he often said what needed to be said and he had tons of experience in the business to back it up.

I'm delighted that Kara's gone. Woman just rubbed me the wrong way, and I was annoyed every time she spoke. The show's never going to be the same without Simon, though, and I think this may be the beginning of the end.

Agreed. The show could have probably survived another season or two with Simon and whoever else, but with him gone I think it'll tank this year and become a memory.

Same here not sure what people really wanted she was right there with Randy as talent evaluators which is a tick or 2 behind Simon. Glad Ellen is gone though she really brought nothing to the table. But losing Simon is a problem for the show, they might do ok if the find solid replacements but the contestants suffer without Simon he really understood how to get the best of them and prepare them for them for a career in the music industry.
