Anybody ever stop and think about what we're saying here. We're talking like 2 million dollars is chump-change. It doesn't seem that long ago when I would've fainted hearing that a ballplayer was raking that in for one year.
Okay, nevermind. Carry on.
The acquisition of mediocre players has been linked to mediocre results.
Just more of the same, I would say.

You don't want to be relying on a bunch of first and second year guys in the pen. Lincoln makes a million and change over the minimum -- big deal. Depth is important for the pen too, and having someone like Lincoln will give unfinished bullpenners (Fisher, Roenicke, Manuel, et al) time to hone their craft in AAA.
I don't see the problem here. Lincoln's got good stuff and showed a lot of promise last year for a guy who hadn't pitched in forever. 2 million a year seems pretty reasonable to me.
If this coincides with the Reds punting both Weathers and Majewski - and grabbing that compensation pick for Weathers - then I can tolerate it. I'm not particularly happy about a second year for Lincoln either, but at some point I'd have probably given $2.5 million to somebody just to get rid of Majewski.
Lincoln does give up too many freaking long balls though.

I'm still up in the air with how I feel about the contract, but I like that the Reds didn't give this deal to a reliever who's coming off a lucky year. In a way, though, the deal is just ridiculous to me. From 2003-7, which theoretically should have been his prime years, he pitched a total of 66.2 innings, and he pitched poorly during that time to boot. Now, he's getting paid $4 million over two years following a career year. In today's market, that's peanuts, so I'm not going to scream about what a terrible deal this is, but I just wonder if the Reds could have spent a couple more million to get a pitcher with higher upside and/or better track record.
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up for me. Price is right (and yes, it is chump change these days whether we like it or not) so if ya' have to eat the contract it's pretty easy to swallow.
As HR said, if ya' have a glut of relivers Lincoln shouldn't be too hard to unload.
Lincoln pretty much guarantees that 'The Majic Man' won't be back and makes it less likely that the Reds will re-sign Weathers (). Those things right there make this an acceptable deal.

I'm not that happy about this. One year for 2 million would be okay, but even then I could see where Lincoln would struggle and we'd have to DFA him. But two years for a guy who just came out of semi-retirement last year to put up just okay numbers doesn't sit well with me. I'd like for Hot Rod to prove me wrong.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
I find it tough to get worked up over the guy who will, when everything shakes down, likely wind up slotted as the 5th man out of the bullpen.
