"Today was the byproduct of us thinking we can come back from anything." - Joey Votto after blowing a 10-1 lead and holding on for the 12-11 win on 8/25/2010.
The National League will have a DH before Votto's contract is up.
Unless he's secretly unhappy in Cincinnati, why would Votto waive his no-trade clause to go to a Jays' team that's losing Encarnacion and Bautista in 2017? He would just set himself to get blamed for the Jays' inevitable decline.
Votto is a bargain. If the Reds don't realize that, then I'd be trying to trade for him too. But as the Reds learned with Phillips, Votto could just blow up the deal, either by just vetoing or asking for a raise or an extra guaranteed year or something. Hell, I'd do that.
Stick to your guns.
