They decided, rightly so, that even with Miley, Gray, Winker and Cast that the team would be bad so might as well cut some salary. You're absolutely right. They have every right to make money AND absolutely kill a storied baseball organization and tradition. They have a right to lose and make money which they can do from tv revenue without a single fan showing up at a game. I have a right to not root for, or financially support this team anymore.

Oh, for sure. There's a high level of incompetency in that organization. Trading guys like Gray, Miley, and Winker and replacing them with below average replacements like Pham and others, isn't trying to win. That's not ineptness. That's forsaking winning to lower expenses and increase net revenue AKA fill their pockets.

I disagree about the level of incompetency. I think they know how to compete. The past two years saw Williams build a club that was competitive. They had a couple of holes, but for the most part, they were good enough to win more than they lost. With the addition of Greene, Lodolo, Barrero, and some luck and health, this team was on its way to being the NL Central favorites.

But ownership just don't want to spend the money year after year to compete or win.

Well 10 games in they're 4 out of the division and 10 games out is probably insurmountable? I'll assume things get a little better once they're not playing teams like the Braves and Dodgers most every day. So June 1?

The best outcome at this stage—from a fan’s standpoint—would be a 100 loss season. It would hopefully dislodge Krall and maybe result in a reconsideration of a lot of things: Whether to sell, whether to restructure the front office, etc. Losing just 90 probably keeps the entire system in place.

That's a great point.
It's hard to see anything changing, unless there's a 100 loss change to reinforce that management is sabotaging the team.
For example, suppose the Reds get some good breaks and end up going maybe 73-89.. That's probably good enough to keep
1.3 million or so fans coming and still be more profitable to tank.
Honestly, I am not sure if even a 100 loss season changes anything, but at least it would be an embarrassment to ownership.
89-95 losses is probably not embarrassing enough.

I have zero hope. They made it pretty evident that they aren't selling, and I believe them. Despite how much they lose, it's a very profitable business for them by the way of TV revenue and revenue sharing. They don't need ticket and merch revenue. They're rich and aloof, they could care less if the go to the playoffs as long as they're stuffing their pockets with cash.

I'm with you, man...if management doesn't care about winning, why should I? It's a real shame after all the decades I've ardently followed the Reds but I feel like I've cut them loose emotionally this year.
