Plus speed. Thompson is worth a shot if you have the slots for it. Makes me wonder even more about what the Reds will do with their 40 man roster.

RH Bat who doesn't hit lefty pitching. Or any pitching really. Reds are going to really struggle against LHP next year. Newman was one of the better bats and is already gone. Votto and Senzel were two others who are likely gone. Fraley and Benson (and probably EDLC) need platoon mates. CES, Marte, India don't hit against LHP. Assuming around 50 starts by LH opponents and I'd guess 15-35 in those games unless they make an acquisition or keep Senzel and Votto around. Right now they'll be lucky to have a line-up that is 5 deep against LHP and that assumes they use Stephenson as DH against LHP. Friedl McLain, Steer, Stephenson, Maile and that's all they've got right now.

Don't the Reds always acquire Bubba's that flame out at the MLB level?
Who was the other one?

It's way too early to be making the claim that CES and Marte don't hit LHP. The fact is there aren't many good LHP in the minor leagues so some adjustment time is needed. CES has had 60 PA vs LHP and Marte 35. Marte also hit .313 with a .371 OBP. CES destroyed LHP and RHP equally in AAA these two will be fine. Elly I'm not so sure about.

They don't hit big league lefties until they do. So far they haven't. I wouldn't go into the season hoping they do when the line-up is already so short against LHP. CES and Marte should play against LHP, but that's why they need some proven production against LHP in the platoon spots. Right now, there is no one to play when Benson and Fraley sit.

Maybe we should try and make him a switch hitter and a bunt machine? Extra guy for spring training (if he sticks that long), they should be farming the waiver wire for guys who might have something to prove. I certainly perfer him over Wil Myers we were given to start last year. Mqybe he can sit under the Votto learning tree and pick up something to make the bat work better.

Best case is you'd have CES, McLain, EDLC, Marte in the IF,. Maile catching, Stephenson at DH and an OF of Steer, Friedl and either Fairchild or Nelson. They need at least one more guy who provides middle of the order type production against LHP. If using Stephenson at DH that much is an issue (and I think it is) then they need 2 guys. Nelson doesn't really fill that role. If there is room, he can be a last guy on the bench who pinch runs type, but I wouldn't plan on anything more than that from him.
