Spencer Steer would still be on the team. I'm okay with it because he can hit but let's be consistent

The #Reds have signed INF Alex Blandino to a minor league contract, per the team’s minor league transaction page.

Blandino was the Reds’ first round pick in 2014. He played in 135 big league games with the club.

The #Reds have signed LHP Reiver Sanmartin to a minor league contract, per the team’s minor league transaction page.

Sanmartin was non-tendered by the Reds on November 17th.

Yes, that's probably the most compelling reason to keep India UNLESS trading India gets us something that helps in 2024.
Trading India for prospects that are 2+ years away would be a complete waste.
I agree that India is a bad defender at 2b, flawed guy, risk to not bounce back offensively.. but his replacement on the roster will be worse.
Reds just signed Blandino.. that might be India's replacement if India is traded.

[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes. Not only is empathy hard to outsource and automate, but it makes the world a better place.

Steer is better than India. India plays one position terribly. Steer provides utility and he's a better LF or 1B than India is a second baseman. I would not allow Steer to play any innings at 2B and I'd probably keep him out if RF as well.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

This is debatable. Steer has played several positions below 2B on the defensive spectrum and only played the lowest one on the defensive spectrum (LF) competently. If, and it's a big if, India is willing to move down the spectrum, he may prove to be better

    This is where I am.

I suspect, as utliity gloves, both are serviceable everywhere but CF, SS, and C. (And they might be able to fake it in CF too, depending on route running.)

Note: Serviceable does not mean average-- it just means they won't kill you.

I'm okay with that as long as the bat is league average or better.

White Sox podcast talking about what trades they would like for Dylan Cease. This was their proposal for the Reds:

    CIN gets:
    RH Cease

    CHW gets:
    RH Phillips
    OF Fraley
    3b Stewart
    CA Tanner

This is a fair trade according to BTV.

That's a lot for a guy who had the season Crease just had.

The loss of Fraley means Benson in RF (where he's bad) and Steer in LF (where he's bad) full-time. India would be the nominal backup across the infield.

The Reds would have to backfill with a free agent fourth OF or better, in addition to a middle infield defensive savant. They'd also probably need to grab a AAAA starter (or, y'know, go ahead and get two free agent SP).

That's probably too rich for my blood, considering the number of quality SP on the market. I'd pass for now.

Well looks like the Cardinals are getting Sonny Gray. Reds better do something like a Cease trade. That feels a tad heavy including Phillips and Stewart.

Yeah I don't love it either. Especially when the reds can just spend 25M and get a similar pitcher without giving anything g up.

Just sign a SP and keep Fraley and 2 of the top 10(maybe top 5) prospects in the system. When Marte officially graduates from prospect status Stewart might be the best bat in the system. Phillips is 22 with TOR upside, and already showed his stuff plays up vs MLB hitters(26 K in 20 IP).
