    Against the rules but c’mon.
He had a beer in the dugout? That makes me like him more.

Easy Rider Elly De La Cruz eases Reds' concern over viral bike video
Fortunately for the Reds, De La Cruz apparently knows how to hit for the cycle but not how to ride one.

Meador: “He said he didn’t ride it. He just rolled it. He said, ‘I don’t even know how to ride one of those things.’“

De La Cruz said he was helping out a friend with a website. He’s never had a motorcycle and doesn’t plan to get one or learn to ride – but understands the concern he raised.

Padres, Nick Castellanos Agree To Contract

The Padres and outfielder Nick Castellanos have agreed to a Major League deal, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post (multiple links). Castellanos will earn $780K on the contract, which is the MLB minimum salary for the 2026 season. That $780K will be subtracted from the $20MM Castellanos is owed by the Phillies for the 2026 season, after Philadelphia released the veteran earlier this week. Castellanos is represented by Mato Sports Management.

Jurickson Profar underwent sports hernia surgery in November. That can often take a long time to recover from. Dude's 33 and unhappy (apparently) about being a DH this season. Sean Murphy is still on the shelf, Spencer Schwellenbach is having elbow issues.

    The Bravos are snake-bit.

Speaking of injuries that may affect the Reds, the rash of hamates have hit two of the clubs that are largely considered among the Reds' competitors for the wildcard spots.

The Mets can move Bichette back to his natural SS position and plug in Vientos or Baty at 3B. His injury hurts, sure, but they might be able to withstand it.

How, otoh, does Arizona deal with the injury to Carroll? Marte to LF and Barrosa to RF? Lawlar to CF and Alek Thomas to RF? Either way, it looks like they might have an issue.

It worked out pretty good for Castellanos getting to go to a legit playoff contender.

Less ABs for Murphy is a good thing. D’Arnaud was, and now Baldwin is a better option at C than Murphy.

Biggest concern for Braves, IMO, is how long Kim is out at SS. There’s nothing behind him.

And while Profar might not like being a DH to start the season, there will be plenty of innings in the OF, especially with Acuna coming back from another surgery.

Ballplayers aren't getting paid for their smarts, or a passing grade in basic economics. I expected no less of a response from union members.

Get ready forn a lengthy lock-out. LOL

    On Dodger payroll approaching $400M.....

"I f---ing love it," Machado said Sunday from Padres camp. "Every team should be doing it. That s--- is f---ing great for the game."

Machado would prefer everyone spend like the Dodgers rather than see them reined in to try to achieve a more balanced financial playing field across MLB.

"I think every team has the ability to do it," Machado said. "I hope all 30 teams learn from that."

and then there's Bryce Harper ....

"I love what the Dodgers do, obviously," Phillies star Bryce Harper told reporters in Florida. "I mean, they pay the money, they spend the money. I mean, they're a great team. They run their team like a business, and they run it the right way.

"... Each team in baseball has an opportunity to do the same thing. Maybe not at the upper echelon of money, but they can draft, they can develop, they can trade. I think a lot of teams can do that in baseball, and they should."

I think every team should be aiming to pay for a roster that is just under .500 and hoping they magically are way better without spending more money. Then that plan would actually work.

To think that every team has the ability, or opportunity, to carry a $400M payroll like the Dodgers simply shows pure ignorance of reality. If it keeps up, then only one who will be able to afford a beer at a ballgame will be Castellanos!! lol

The TV deals alone have such a massive disparity. The Dodgers are making double the amount over every other team except the Yankees. And even that disparity is over $100 million.

Latest numbers I could find on TV deals... Dodgers at $334 million a year, Yankees at $217, Cubs at $132, Mets at $128, Mariners at $118, Phillies at $100. That's just not sustainable for the health of the entire League.
