It's funny that Team Italy is just a bunch of American dudes with Italian-sounding last names. LMAO

Seiya Suzuki was injured last night in the WBC. Limped off the field with a knee problem. Not seeing any news yet on the MRI but in doubt for opening day for the Cubs.

Aren't they actually "Italian surnames" as opposed to sounding Italian? Pepperoni is an American word, but sure sounds Italian

How is baseball different today than in the past?

Pete Rose played 24 years and faced 793 different pitchers, Carlos Santana has played 16 years and faced 1536 different pitchers

Wow, pitchers today burn brighter for shorter stints and flame out sooner. Often wonder how Bench, Rose, Morgan, Foster, Schmidt, Frank Robinson, Mantle, and other stars of the 60’s 70’s and 80’s would fare today against 98-100 mph fastballs, 95 mph cutters and 90 mph sliders? I suppose they would have adjusted and still be among today’s best hitters.

More teams, more pitchers in rosters, with hitting being a task based on pattern recognition I assume most players would experience a drop in production somewhat due to limited exposure

He was pretty good up until the ASB that year, then the wheels fell off.

    Food for thought/discussion:

Aaron Judge in WBC elimination games:
    -3 games
    -2-11 (.182)
    -6 K

Aaron Judge in the MLB playoffs:
    -65 games
    -58-246 (.236)
    -91 K

Dodgers Officially Add Santiago Espinal to Opening Day Roster
The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Santiago Espinal’s contract after their 5-1 win over the Giants on Wednesday, adding him to the Opening Day roster.

LA signed Espinal to a minor league deal towards the beginning of spring training, and manager Dave Roberts said he “seamlessly” fit in with the rest of the squad since arriving.

His comfortability has been apparent, as he has been one of the Dodgers’ best players during Cactus League play. He’s slashing .389/.432/.639 with two home runs and 13 RBIs, and has also been perfect in the field for the Dodgers with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

    According to Jon Heyman:

Extension talk updates: Peralta/Mets not close yet, Kurtz offered about $130M (but deal seems unlikely now), Griffin, 19, offered biggest deal ever for no MLB service time, $100M-plus and that one might have a chance, maybe!

So Reds fans didn't think he was good enough to be on the roster last year but the world champs beg to differ.

And Cubs have put Conforto on their roster. He hit .635 last year and showed the same numbers in spring training this year.
