"I've Never Been in Love" was a good song that everyone will remember when they hear it. 90% of people will also say , "I didn't know that's who sang that song." Cutting Crew is remembered by most people as the band who did "I Died in Your Arms" and then disappeared, which is really not the case. One -hit wonders are driven ,oftentimes, more by perception, than by actual reality.

Can you name the title and the two artists(they are both groups) ?

TDave came up with "Venus"(Frankie Avalon ) and "Venus" (Shocking Blue/Bananarama) Here's the one I had in mind:

Really good guess, but Tommy Ttone peaked at #4 with "Jenny." Not bad for a song that started out "8675309."

Here's the one-hit wonder with the girl's name in the title that went to # 1 and replaced another song at the top that had a girl's name:

And it replaced this song at the top of the charts:

A couple of further trivia tidbits:

** The girl who played Eileen in the video was Maire Fahey , sister of Siobhan Fahey from the group Bananrama, who had a #1 hit with another girl's name song, "Venus."

** When "Come on Eileen" fell out of the top spot after one week , it was sweet revenge for Michael Jackson for being knocked out of #1. His song, "Beat it!" replaced "Come on Eileen" at #1.

    143. Can you name the common song title and the artists who performed them? One hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973 and the other hit #1 on the Billboard Top Tracks chart in 1983.

    #1 in 1973:

Ringo co-wrote Photograph with George Harrison.

And the Eagles’ Best of My Love was originally on the album On The Border. I put a lot of quarters in the jukebox for that song at the Oar House on High St at OSU.

Most people think of these bands as one hit wonders and many lists of OHW have them on it, even though both bands had other hits. AFOS had the smash hit, "(I Ran) So Far Away" but they also charted with "Space Age Love Song." And with Human League, everyone and their granny remembers "Don't You Want Me." The band is virtually synonymous with that song and it makes a lot of one hit wonder lists. But Human League actually had another #1 that is often forgotten:

Rev, I may be wrong but I think what happens is that a band , or artist, becomes so intertwined with one song that it almost defines their career, at least in the minds of many. Kinda like an actor or actress who becomes so well known for a certain role. Carroll O'Connor will always be Archie Bunker, despite the fact that he had other great work, including In The Heat Of The Night. One would be hard pressed to find a list of OHW that didn't include Cutting Crew, AFOS, or Human League, because that one big hit overshadows everything else the artist did in the minds of a lot of fans. But you are absolutely right. They really aren't OHW.
Another Roy “I saw this band” note…

Don’t remember the date, but I saw A Flock of Seagulls open for the Go Go’s at Kings Island’s Timberwolf. My then-gf got us 5th row tickets. AFOS was really LOUD!!! Both bands were at their peak.

I did wear a pink shirt and white jeans to the concert. My nod to new wave. My ex-gf bought it for me. She was lots more into new wave than I was.

    144. Back in March of 1977 in Toronto , tickets were promoted for a small 300-capacity gig, in which the Canadian band, April Wine, was billed as the headliner, with an unknown band, the Cockroaches, as the opening act. Most of the attendees had won tickets to the concert through a local radio station. While on a chartered bus to the gig, the concert-goers learned that this was gonna be the ol' bait 'n switch(the good kind). You see, April Wine was actually going to open the show and "The Cockroaches" would follow as the headliners.

    145. Shortly after enlisting in the Air Force, this future music legend was deployed to Landsberg, West Germany, where he served served as a Staff Sergeant in the 12th Radio Squadron Mobile , working as a Morse code operator intercepting Soviet transmissions . On March 5, 1953 , he intercepted a message that Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, had died, making him the first American to receive that news. He immediately relayed the information up the chain of command, which ended with President Eisenhower.

Today we remember him as a music icon, but there's a good chance that he would have never risen to fame if he hadn't enlisted in the Air Force. And that's because there were two things that were important to his legacy that were formed while he was overseas---his name and one of his biggest hits.

When he enlisted, he used his birth name , J.R., on his enlistment papers. You see, his father and mother, Ray and Carrie, couldn't decide on a name, so they just chose the initials, "J.R." for his birth name. But the Air Force wouldn't allow him to sign up with initials for his name, so he had a choose a name---which he did. Also, while deployed in Landsberg, he watched a 1951 crime film set inside a prison, leading him to think about how much military life and prison had in common, and later inspiring him to pen one of his biggest hits.

When he wasn’t monitoring the airwaves and intercepting Russian transmissions, he was playing with his first band, the Landsberg Barbarians, which he formed soon after being deployed there. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on July 3, 1954, ending a military service that allowed him to be part of one of the most significant historical events of the era and helping shape the artist who would one day become a legend , eventually selling over 90 million records.

Can you name the music legend , who was the first American to learn of Stalin's death, AND the song that was inspired by the 1951 film that he watched on the base in Landsberg ?
