MLB Commissioner Sends Clear Message About World Baseball Classic
Fresh off the most successful World Baseball Classic ever, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is interested in fixing something that isn’t broken.

Manfred joined The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday morning to discuss the start of the 2026 regular season. And during the interview, Patrick asked about the success of the WBC, questioning whether it’s an event that can be played every two years.

Recently, Rob Manfred also spoke about the possibility of moving the WBC from March to a mid-season tournament, which seems like a surefire way to lose player interest, with many of them understandably valuing a two-week break in July over competing in a global tournament.

The World Baseball Classic needs a more defined rotation after previously running on three, four and six-year cycles. But the tournament’s recent success should prove the schedule doesn’t need to be overhauled.

National League Has Set A MLB Record Just 2 Weeks Into The Season
Parity has taken over the Major League Baseball National League, and it’s happening at a historic level. Following play on April 8th, an incredible 13 of the 15 National League teams are .500 or better, marking the most teams in a single league at or above .500 (with at least 10 games played) at the end of any day in MLB history.

It’s a rare early-season snapshot that speaks to just how balanced and unpredictable the National League has become.

Angels Designate Jeimer Candelario For Assignment

The Angels announced that infielder Jeimer Candelario has been designated for assignment. The move creates roster space for fellow infielder Vaughn Grissom, who has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list.

Candelario signed a minor league contract with Los Angeles during the offseason, and earned himself a spot on the Opening Day roster due to a few factors. The veteran’s big Spring Training numbers helped him stand out from some other infield candidates like Christian Moore and Kyren Paris, and Grissom was also lost to a wrist sprain. Unfortunately, Candelario couldn’t keep his Cactus League performance going into the regular season, as he hit only .111/.200/.222 over 20 plate appearances.

Brewers are on a 5 game losing streak, including getting swept this weekend by the Nats. Cubs narrowly avoided getting swept by the Pirates.

Hinds recalled by Reds with struggling Marte optioned
All expectations entering the season were that Noelvi Marte would be the Reds' regular right fielder and have a chance to thrive on both sides of the game playing a position he only learned midway through 2025.

Instead, Marte couldn't get going at the plate. After Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Angels, Cincinnati optioned him to Triple-A Louisville. The club on Tuesday recalled outfielder Rece Hinds from Louisville to replace Marte on the 26-man roster.

“He’s just having a tough time," Reds manager Terry Francona said about Marte after Sunday's game before a roster move was revealed. "He looks like he’s trying to hit everything. When you see him going up there and swinging at a 2-0 breaking ball, sometimes it’s hard to let the game come to you.”

In 11 games this season, Marte was batting .138 (4-for-29) with no extra-base hits, no RBIs and 10 strikeouts. He batted .263 with a .748 OPS, 14 homers and 51 RBIs in 90 games last season.

Hinds had a superb Spring Training and was one of the final camp cuts after batting .410 with a 1.414 OPS and five homers in 21 games. His production carried into the regular season with Louisville, where he was batting .354 with a 1.246 OPS, five homers and 16 RBIs in 13 games.
