Was just perusing the Statcast leaderboards and enjoyed this nugget: leaders in Barres per PA

    1. Mike Trout, 16.7%
    2. Aaron Judge, 16.7%
    3. Sal Stewart, 15.8%

(Steer is 21st. Not too shabby)
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

As you state, he's not been wrong thus I have no problem with it. Will he ever get to this point with KBH? I'm not so sure. It's like Francona views the 9th spot as an automatic out anyway so enjoy the defense at 3B
Francona has admitted he was unfair to Benson when he was in Cleveland and didn't put him in a position to succeed and he has said he regretted it very much. I feel like he has stuck with Benson longer then he might have normally done so because of what happened with them in Cleveland and Tito wanting to make it up to him.

It seems like for now Hayes plays when Stephenson plays and sits when the back up C is in there. If he starts sitting Hayes with Stephenson in the lineup that will be a sign KBH is having his playing time cut.

Benson should be the next on the chopping block when the opportunity dictates it (such as a call-up, need for the roster spot). Like you said -he's been given plenty of opps, going back to his days with Cleveland (where Tito was the manager). He's shown nothing IMO.

How far does KBH have to sink before Franco says "I've seen enough"? He's been disgustingly bad! And if he continues on this course - who plays 3B? It would have to be Geno. He played 150+ games last year there. And you spell him with guys like Sal, Speer, and lets not forget the Elly plays 3B. You move McLain over to SS, and play Steer at 2B. Again, this is only when you want to give Geno an occassional break off 3B. I'd use KBH as a late inning defensive replacement.

Reds don’t seem very anxious to make these changes on an urgent basis. Maybe over time.

It looks Benson may be out of chances, and my guess is this is Hinds' last look before he joins the previously mentioned players. One thing I will say is that Tito hasn't been wrong about any of those guys he gave up on last year yet.
I can take or leave Tito, but this team has messed around with guys who've failed for far too long as a rule. I thought Marte earned a longer look, but I welcome the idea of letting go of stuff that hasn't worked and trying something else.

I've thought this as well, but figured if I posted it, half the board would tell me how stupid I am.

I think you are exactly right.

So they are holding onto a guy because of a past injustice. That looks even dumber. Welcome to the big leagues

McLain has a "good eye good eye" and plays good defense, but he is a bust as a hitter.

I prefer when they keep a guy on the roster just because he has a bobblehead night coming up.

Marte’s bobblehead still has a higher bWAR than Marte.

lol. I makes me wonder now if the disagreement Tito and Krall had was over Benson making the opening day roster. Maybe the conversation went something like this.

Nick: I think we should keep Bleday, because we have enough data on Will and it’s time to move on

Tito: I know that Nick, but I owe this kid and that’s way more important than winning silly baseball games.

Honestly though, the disagreement may have been over Marte. Who knows though

The end may finally be near for Benson, as he has 4 PA in the last 7 days. I realize this is mainly due to Hinds arrival, but so few at bats in the last week doesn’t bode well for his future on this team. He’s certainly not a guy I’d count on as a late inning pinch hitter.
