I don't think the Cards can keep this up for the whole year due to their young position players and lack of pitching, but the other 4 teams in the NL Central have a shot at being .500 or better IMO. The Pirates have the best pitching right now, but if the Reds get Hunter and Lodolo back they will be at least on equal footing.

Jimmy Herget has had himself a nice little career in the Bigs. The ex-Red was the opener for the Rockies tonight against the Padres. His career ERA is 3.09 in a little over 250 innings pitched. Not bad.

I don't love that the Cubs have won 6 in a row or that the Brewers are in last place....at 12-9. Moments from being 13-9

Houston Astros having bullpen problems. They had a 4-2 lead in the 8th inning but then they gave up a 6 spot to Cleveland. Astros lose 8-5

Reds get into the positive run differential club with the big win tonight. Probably could've thrown a position player out there instead of Nicolas and gotten the same/better results...

Royals appear on their way to their 9th straight loss, and the Phils are likely to lose their 7th straight. Mets, Phillies and Royals are all teams you could have imagined as playoff teams on opening day. Probably don't count out the Phils and Mets yet. Probably do count out the Royals.

How can that happen with a $381 million payroll? Hell their luxury tax is estimated to be $127 million

SD wins 1-0 at Denver tonight. Such a score used to be unheard of at Coors Field. It’s still pretty rare. I think this makes the Padres the only MLB team with a record better than ours…pending the Giants-Dodgers game

Because it isn't about how much money you spend it is about how well you actually build a team.

Everyone thinks the Dodgers are great just because they spent a lot of money, they have excellent scouting they hit on trades and prospects and they know how to build an actual team. The Mets just spend on big names and hope it all comes together.

So it was the Dodgers excellent scouting that discovered the talents of Ohtani, Yamamoto, Tucker and Freeman? Most of their team was built from money. Not home grown talent. Our Reds start 6 home grown guys when Hinds is in RF. 4 of our 5 starters (pitching) are homegrown. Yet you say the Dodgers are built on great scouting and player development? Where does this come from? Cut $200mill from their payroll and then let's see how good they are. They'd still be spending way more than us

I said they hit on trades and prospects, I also didn't say they don't spend money.

Will Smith - Drafted by LA
    Freddie Freeman - FA
Alex Freeland - Drafted by LA
    Hyeseong Kim - FA
Max Muncy - Minor League contract
    Teoscar Hernandez - FA
Andy Pages - International signing at age 18
    Kyle Tucker - FA
    Ohtani - FA
    Mookie - Trade
    Tommy Edman - Trade
Dalton Rushing - Drafted by LA

    Yamamoto - FA
    Glasnow - Trade
    Wrobleski - Drafted by LA
    Sheehan - Drafted by LA
    Sasaki - FA

So there are the Dodgers with 7 players (2 SPs and 5 position players) who were home grown talent and I am counting Muncy since he was a minor league contract and played in the Dodgers minor league system.
They have traded for Glasnow, Mookie, and Edman with prospects they had developed in their farm system.

So yeah, while they have money to spend and can go get free agents, they are not made up of just free agents. The topic wasn't comparing the Dodgers to the Reds and money spent, it was saying that just because you have money doesn't mean you will spend it well. It is widely known that the Dodgers spend a lot of money on scouting and development and they are smart in their team construction.

They are spending their money better than the Mets. I think that's a given. But despite their scouting and system, they could not do this on a budget of $200mill. Do you agree with me on that point?

Would they be as dominant as they are with a $200M budget? No, of course not but I don't think they would be a last place team either. They would still be a solid team.
