The song was originally released as a B-side single by the husband and wife duo , with a little help from their friends. Rita Coolidge sang backup on the original, which featured Eric Clapton on lead guitar and Dave Mason on guitar.

But it wasn't until February of '71 ,when one half of a sibling pop duo heard Bette Midler sing the song on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, that the song would gets it due. He loved the melody but thought the lyrics were a bit too risque for his taste(and wholesome image). So he changed one word in the second verse, replacing "sleep" with the less suggestive "be." Thus, "to sleep with you again" became "to be with you again."

His sister originally disliked the song but warmed up to it after hearing the lush, orchestral arrangement. Her iconic, and absolutely haunting , vocal track was captured in just a single, remarkable take. Almost unbelievably, as she was recording that one take, she was literally reading the song's lyrics for the first time. That's a professional singer!!!

The song went all the way to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971 , becoming the duos fifth Billboard Hot 100 single. They would eventually end up with 21 Billboard Top 40 singles, including 13 in the Top Ten and three chart toppers.

Can you name the song, the husband and wife duo who originally released it , and the sibling duo who made it famous?
Ah, a song from my era. “Superstar” done by Delaney and Bonnie later done by the Carpenters. Written by Leon Russell (a Roy fave) and Bonnie Bramlett. It’s a hoot that the squeaky clean Carpenters sing a song about a groupie.

And, I saw Leon Russell play at the old Canal Street Tavern in Dayton. Late-ish 80’s.

Delaney and Bonnie original(SO GOOD! LOVE IT! Really carries a bluesy , late 60's hippie feel) :

Carpenters - #2 Billboard Hot 100(1971) Karen's voice is on another level . She read the words to this song for the first time when she was recording the song. Did it on one take!

    199. This question could be filed under the category of artists you never knew were in Fleetwood Mac. Do you know who replaced Stevie Nicks when she left the band in 1993? Yep, it was none other than Bonnie Bramlett's(of Delaney & Bonnie) little girl, Bekka. Bekka replaced Stevie and another fellow was added at the same time to help round out the new lineup. He was a rock veteran dating back to the 60's when he formed a band with Steve Winwood. The British musician had a solo career in the 70's and had a bit hit in 1977 that climbed to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Who was this member of Fleetwood Mac from 1993-1995 that everyone forgets about? Hint: In his younger days, he looked a lot like FM bassist, John McVie.

Another hint: He played guitar on Delany and Bonnie's B-side single , Groupie"(Superstar).

    201. *** TODAY'S BIRTHDAYS IN ROCK HISTORY***

On this day 68 years ago the artist formerly known as was born. On this date in 1993 , he changed his name to the above unpronounceable symbol in protest of his record label, Warner Brothers. Ig was his rebellious and rather radical way of separating himself from his birth name, which he felt was legally controlled and commercialized by his record label.

To ensure media outlets could write about his new identity, Warner Bros. sent out custom 3.5-inch floppy disks to music journalists. These disks contained a special font file that, when installed on a computer, allowed writers to type the symbol whenever they hit the "P" key. Name the late artist that was formerly known by a symbol and was born on this day 66 years ago.

    202. The second birthday on this day, June 7, is a man who now has "Sir" in front of his name. He is 86 years old today. He famously covered two songs by the the artist formerly known as . One of those covers actually peaked at #5 on the UK Singles chart, one spot higher than the original version.

What was the name of the band?
Blind Faith. Short-lived band that never really meshed.

Loved Clapton and Winwood. Never was a Ginger Baker fan.

Bekka Bramlett and Dave Mason headed up the Fleetwood Mac lineup from '93-'95 , along with Billy Burnette(who joined, along with Rick Vito, when Buckingham left in '87). Here's Bekka and Dave singing "The Chain" in 1995 :
