Whats up jmc19 - I used to chew as well. Mostly kodiak, but also Rooster. Did it for about 7 years, but only on weekends when I was drinking. Gave it up last year cold turkey - lasted 11 months, but recently I have had a couple while playing poker. Everytime I throw a lipper in I proceed to do really well, which has caused me problems, cause I want to stay quit. But luck is luck.

I picked up cigars for poker and golf, my two worst problem spots. I fear if I pick up another tin I'm doomed.

I was copenhagen guy. Strongest Tobacco on the market. Was what my roommate had. Which doesn't help the urges at all when you go cold turkey, let me tell you.

Tonight I watched the Bizarro Jerry episode of Seinfeld. Great episode - George with the Susan death story to get into the Forbidden World, Kramer with the job he doesn't get paid for and then gets fired even though he doesn't work there, man-hands, and the bizarro friends of Elaine.

Good stuff

Someone dies on CSI: Miami this Monday - I hope its not Emily Procter. Even though the lighting they use for the show makes her look bad I still dig her. She rocked on West Wing

If I knew that being a forensic scientist was such a cool job I would have angled for that. But two things were against me - one, the CSI shows didn't start until somewhere around my 30th birthday, too late since I was already in law school, and two, I sucked at science, which probably would have hindered my career as a forensic scientist.

I majored in political science (although from the political threads and being told i don't know what I'm talking about you'd never know it) and minored in history. Since Poly Sci is really a b.s. major being a lawyer from it really is staying with your major, so to answer Creek's question - yes, I am doing what I majored in in college

Doesn't she have an odd tick when she talks?

I like her though, she was good on West Wing, and on CSI as well. I thought it was funny on West Wing they tried to make her like Ann Coulter, except you know, sane.

But hey, good looking blonde republicans, have to give that thumbs up.

I just said "majored in in college" - I always try to avoid the double words but sometimes you just have to use them. The one I now avoid, however, is that that. I write like I talk, which is good, but it also doesn't always translate exactly like its supposed to, so I have to be careful sometimes. But the "in in" was unavoidable in this instance

Why Poli Sci?

I love politics. I try(badly I might add) to stay out of the political arguments here.

I do troll a few other political boards however for kicks from time to time.

But doing it for a career boggles my mind.

I tell everyone I know to avoid Liberal Arts degrees like the plague. Math and sciences kids, those are the tickets to a real job.

To be as perfectly honest as I can - I went to college undecided. The first class I thought was really easy was a political science class. So I said this has me written all over it! And it was confirmed by other slackers that poly sci was the way to go to do the least work possible. Again, I said, i'm sold!

Can't beat honesty

What I have never understood is why Poli Sci is the Pre-Law major of choice. Studying politics doesn't make you learn how to analyze the law any better.

When I took the LSAT, one of the advisors at the Law School told me that they look at life experience and analytical abilities more so than what classes you actually took.

On CSI tonight (last years finale) the main suspects were a family of brothers named Coombs. Well, thats my last name. And yes hopefully now you all can tell where I got the nickname Puffy. "So, your last name is Coombs? Like Combs" "Yea, something like it." "So can we call you Puffy" "Sure"

Anyway, if you watched the episode you will realize what i have gone through my whole life. Half the people on the show pronounced it "c o m b s" and others pronounced it correctly as "Coo'mb s" its pretty wierd though that the director and producers couldn't get everyone to pronounce it the same all through the show.

Yeah, shaving sucks. The legs especially. Who came up with the idea that women need to shave their legs, anyway? I can't imagine not doing it, but I'd like to have words with whoever came up with it in the first place.

Maybe that's why I really like colder weather. Less shaving required.

Yeah, I'm really going to bed - but I had to comment first. When did Megan and Meghan become different names? My goodness, and they jump down your throat if you pronounce one the other way.

I kept meeting these girls who pronounced it Meg-an, so after a while it became natural. Then I met a girl named Meg-han, like it was always pronounced, and I always said Meg-an, and boy, she'd get pissed!

Believe

Do you feel the magic? The city of life, liberty, and love beckons. Don’t blink, you’ll miss it all! Here lives and breathes “The House that Ruth Built.” It’s alive with winners, a haven where history and tradition shake hands with rookies and newly broken records. Out on the streets, everything runs together. The people, the cars, the buildings… It all merges as one. Time whizzes by; life is a blur. Only in America! This wondrous place truly exists as a home to many and a dream for others. Look, it’s Barry Larkin! My hero! Don’t cry, because happy is what happens when all your dreams come true! Good things do happen to good people. This is love. This is life.

Welcome to the fervor. My perspective never sleeps here. Starbucks props my eyes open with a strawberries and cream flavored frappucino. Better not blink or you’ll miss a vital thread in the weave of chaos! Every noise, every person, every flash of light is integral in painting the most unique masterpiece in the world. Numerous lives, each different, yet all intertwined. Hello, Ryan Freel! Miracle upon miracle! This means so very much! This is forever etched in my mind and heart.

This beloved place is the essence of America, the very definition of life. I’m loving it! Hideous orange and bright blue; this isn’t an eyesore, it’s Shea Stadium! Impersonal, but charming, this is a constant contradiction. Like waltzing down the street, defying gravity. Soaking up the mass confusion, living in the moment. The beauty is truly one of a kind, soaked up in every special nuance. Especially wonderful to meet you, Jason LaRue! Somebody pinch me, am I dreaming? Hope certainly does not disappoint!

No one is invulnerable to the majesty of the city. Lights, camera, action! My perspective drinks it in with starry eyes. The flashy Broadway lights are blinding! It can be “Wicked,” but it’s a “Wonderful Town,” especially along “42nd Street.” The wonderland whirls wildly, as people come and go, zig-zagging along. Precious pride, love, and independence permeate every nook and cranny. Everything here is a once in a lifetime opportunity! In a heartbeat, Danny Graves and I cross paths! Treasured times! Terrific trip! My happiness sprouts wings and off I fly!

See the city. Feel the city. Breathe the city. Love the city. It will capture your heart and soul like no other! The magnificent lady welcomes all visitors, for she is the epitome of liberty and freedom for all. Bask in her green glory; the gentle giant symbolizes America itself. Does the frenzied pace call to you too? Better hustle, or the city will leave you in the dust! A diamond in the rough. It’s tough to find a more splendid place than this! Stop! Wait! Oh wow, Ken Griffey Jr.! A future fixture in the Hall of Fame! I’m so very glad I came! Containing my joy is impossible now… This love has a life of its very own!

Have you ever seen anything like the city? Amazing. Astounding. Awesome. Here, a perfect balance between stone cold reality and delightful dreams has been achieved. The view from the top is incredible! The pinnacle of the city, the Empire State Building, will take your breath away. It’s difficult to breathe amidst the crowd below. So bright, so loud, so busy. Rest is for the weak, here. No other location possesses this energy, this pure electricity! Holy cow! Hola, señor Wily Mo Peña! Floating on cloud nine… These thrills will stay with me for over a thousand tomorrows!

The “Big Apple” is quite shiny and appealing. It’s impossible not to sense the perfection of it all, slightly tainted as it may be. I’m in the Zone… The ESPN Zone! Sports crazy, just like the majority of the city. Fun, laughter, music, and game broadcasting reverberate throughout. This is the best headache I’ve ever had! Tornados of activity are the main component of this beautiful city. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this! No other city can hold a candle to this one! Smile! There’s Todd Jones! Forget smiling, I’m grinning from ear to ear! Unforgettable… That’s what this is! The journey of a lifetime has culminated here!

Bubbly, personable, tough, and aggressive, the city makes its mark. Never any hesitation here! Vivid colors, sunshine bright, the greens of nature. Central Park! A breath of fresh air amidst the buzz of society. People are exuberantly hectic, busied, and stressed everywhere. Panic? No, this is everyday life! Exceptionally individual, everyone in full bloom! Extraordinary! Whoa, is that Brandon Larson? I can’t believe it! All my twists and turns have brought me here… Heartache ends here. Believe. Anything is possible. The city, the people, the memories… We will go on beyond goodbye.

I'm so tired of hearing about how the intel community needs to be totally reworked.

It's just the upper levels and how they share information that needs to be fixed.

You guys need to quit writing so much in the evening. I just spent 25 minutes reading this note when I have work to do.

Congrats on the 10K posts creek.

SB, good job on taking care of your friend. A rough go of it, but you did a good thing today. The RA was unbelievably irresponsible.

My major was psychology which has turned out to be next to useless (but a good conversation topic). Went on to grad school in computer science.

My happy place is likes woy's. Being able to totally and completely experience the moment. Not think about yesterday, today, tomorrow, worries, bills, blah blh but just enjoy the here and now. Happens every so often. I'm lucky, I've turned out to be the person I wanted to be. Just took a while.

Raining like gangbusters here. Got here before they unlocked the building so I had to dig out my key. As soon as I did that, 3 people sitting in their cars jumped out and rushed in behind me.

I've been teaching my son to drive a stick shift. Boy, there is an experience in success and failure for you. My neck is sore from getting whipsawed by the herky-jerk starts. But he is getting better and 1 start out of about 3 now is nice and smooth. I told him chicks dig a guy who can handle the shifter well :RedinDC:

My dad taught me to drive a stick shift about a year after I got my license. he bought a VW to run around in when the gas prices rose to the unthinkable level of 50+ cents a gallon  .

He drove it mostly, but at one point, he was taking my mom and the family impala on an out of town trip and leaving us kids home alone (with the neighbors checking up on us from time to time.)

I had to learn to drive the VW.

Went to the parking lot behind the BIG K, and I started practicing. Then, we drove out on the main hwy for about a mile out of town. My dad never had patience with this stuff, so once I knew the drill, and after a couple of shouting attempts, I decided I knew what I needed. I just needed practice, and it would be easier to practice without him in the car.

So, the day they left, after we all got home from school, the four of us kids piled into the little vw, and I rode around the block a couple of times until I was comfortable. We had a lot of laughs at my expense that day.

I have a friend that I would love to teach to drive. I just think I'd be nervous and not a good teacher ..... especially in my car. I'm not the most patient person in the world. I really would like her to learn though. I don't think she knows the freedom she's missing.

Ok, let me give you guys the rundown of what happened yesterday...real quick. Yesterday the company sent out an email saying that certain people within our company had been posting negative comments about the company on a Yahoo message board. That was immediately followed with an email from my manager that if anyone was seen posting anything on any message board, they would be terminated, no questions asked. I felt it best for me to sign off for the day from redszone as a result. That warning still carries on to today, and for the immediate future. I will be checking back in at 2:30 (my lunch time) but as of now, the posting that I do from work has been totally cut off or I risk losing my job. I hope that this "ban" doesn't last too long and that I can return to my normal activity in the not too distant future. But in the meantime, it will probably be held to one hour a day, 2:30-3:30pm, my lunch time. I miss you guys and hope to be back in full swing soon. Take care.

I had a major TV crunch tonight. Four shows were on at 8 p.m. that I wanted to watch. I'm good with the remote, but not that good.

So I'm taping "Joey" and "Will & Grace," and also "Survivor." Watched the first hour of the Reds game, and will start taping the game again after 9 p.m. "The OC" had to get skipped tonight, even if it is my favorite teen drama. (Yep, I really do watch it.)

What did I do before I got a DVR? And why is it all the shows I want to watch have to be on the same night, topped with a Reds game on TV?

Get more TVs :D

While running out of both coffee and cigarettes IS a nightmare ;) , this was a serious nightmare. It was really weird, because parts of the movie kept showing up in it. Have you seen the movie? You know the part where she's on the phone and starts coughing and pulls a long piece of string out of her throat? That happened to me in my dream. Then I woke up for a minute because I *swear* she was talking to somene in the movie and was calling her Rosie. (I don't know if there's a character named Rosie, but that's what I heard.) So then I was half awake/half asleep, and I thought I was suddenly in the movie, etc. There was also a moment in my dream when my parents wanted to watch a videotape, and I knew it was the tape from the movie, and I didn't want them to watch it because I didn't want them to die.

If that makes any sense! :MandJ:

I've never seen the movie..but I think I've heard enough about it to frighten me

Us little peons work our butts off and put out some useful information.

But then Johnny doesn't want to share with Jane.

Freaking bureaucrats.

That would make sense when it comes to intelligence.

But like most overbloated companies, the US Gov doesn't always like to make sense. We can't have that sort of thing spreading. :dflynn:

No, not yet. The building I live in was built in the 30's, with some renovations since then, so I'm fairly confident its held up.

I am assuming that most of the damage was done to mobile homes and the like as Panama City has lots of those and they damage very easily.

Well, if sand went a couple blocks inland then I'm screwed for awhile. Well, it won't of reached my apartment per se (second floor) but it will be tough driving on the sand to get to my place - not to mention how sand pervades everything in a radius.

Well a background in intel helps...

But really they are looking for people who are analytical but creative thinkers. Kind of a paradox. And if you have done any kind of analysis in the past- that helps. It’s very tedious and exacting work. If you miss something, someone might die. If that doesn’t appeal to you, you wouldn’t like it.

I had a TS clearance back in my WPAFB days. It was kinda funny when they did the deep background check and I got panicked calls from friends saying "Bruce, my God, what did you do? FBI guys are calling us up". They said they lied a lot for me :)

Don't know about Creek's neck of the woods, but government work isn't for everyone. The BS factor was extremely high, higher than private enterprise. What's up, Kid?

Nothing really. It's just today is my Monday, and that's always a little tough -- everyone else in the world (seemingly) is excited for Fridays, and that's the day I most dread. Not only do I have to go back to work, but Fridays at work are by far the most stressful day. You'd think HS football wouldn't be that big of stressmaker, but let me tell you! It is. :)

Plus, I was really hoping to go out tonight (and if anyone read this thread from last night, you'll know why), but I don't think it's going to work out. Which *SUCKS* big time. I don't think I can go partly because I'm not sure if I can get out of work in time, and partly because I don't know if I can get access to the place I would need to be. Not to mention that I don't even have a valid driver's license, so for all I know I could get turned away at the door!

So basically, it's nothing. Work will be work, and I'll probably just go home after it, which is standard Friday Night Hell. I was just really looking forward to going out tonight, and now that I've had a night to sleep on it I don't see how it can happen. Last night I thought for sure it would work out. Today, I don't see how it possibly could, and that sucks.

(Plus I talked to a friend of mine this morning, and he said he was surprised to find out that I'd want to go to this place tonight, and he went on and on about how that's not like me, that he never would have guessed I'd be "one of those girls," and that frankly he's a little disappointed. Which made me think, and he's absolutely right -- it's not like me at all. But despite that, I still want to go, which is making me feel bad! Sigh.)

Yeah, I know. I have no doubt I'd have a good time even if the original plan didn't work out (which it won't, I just know). There's just so many factors working against me going out at all tonight, let alone in the fashion I want to go out. When in Lynchburg Tennessee for the Jack Daniels tour, be sure to go to Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House to eat. As the locals say, them's some fine eatin'.

(we went there last summer and my wife and I were talking about it over lunch)

Good to know! Is it wrong that my happy place has now become swimming in that 517 lb barrel?

Would you want to drink something you've been swimming in? ;)

If I were a boy, I would be Kyle or Brandon, according to my mom. Of course, my father insists I would have been "His Name IV." He wanted to call me "The Fourth." Seriously. He's nuts!! :screwy: My mom always said, "Over my dead body!!!!" :MandJ:

I'm the third consecutive boy in my family with my name. When I was little (2-10 or so) my Dad used to call me Tre (for three, obviously). He gave it up as I started to grow up. I liked it when I was a kid (although I never knew why he called me that until later).

My sister's two boys are named Kyle and Brandon.

The other name in the running when I was born was Duane. I'm glad they didn't use it.

With my kids, Zachary was going to be Stephanie, Jennifer was going to be Jonathan, and Elizabeth was going to be Christopher (yes, we have a subscription to "Trendy Names of the 90's" magazine).

My mom was apparently infatuated with naming me with a J.

I was going to be a Jessica or a Josh. Josh won out.

Always loved that name Zachary RT, good choice.

TV time. Goodnight all.

Just want to let you know that TeamMorris made homemade chocolate chip cookies and she sent me her chocolate-faced son up here instead of a cookie. :(

Hmmm ..... perhaps there was a cookie intended for me that never made it up the stairs. The kid was wearing the evidence. :MandJ:

I'm sorry :( It was pretty late and I figured you were all ready curled up for the night! Plus at that time of night I figured you would kill me if I gave you cookies ;)

My parents live on a golf course. After Frances, on the sixth hole (where they live) there was a lake where there should not have been one.

Its gone already and people are once again playing golf. I thought it would take a month to clean up the course and get it ready again. I was wrong.

I just booked my room for New Orleans Halloween weekend. The Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel on Canal and Bourbon Streets.

Harrahs is three blocks away. Pat O'Briens in about 5 blocks straight down Bourbon. Yeah baby!
