I like a lot of Tim Anderson's game, but his K/BB ratio gives me real pause. He is extremely dependent on BABIP, though so far it's worked for him at every level.

Christian Arroyo on the Giants is intriguing. He is their top offensive talent, though he's not a top 100 prospect.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

How has this targeting been done, with smoke signals, private tweets or text messages? The reason I ask this is that Uncle Walt, woken up by the alleged Cincinnati Sports Media, stated that the Reds have received no calls on trades - I believe this was within the last week to ten days. Either Walt is lying, this is a purely made up rumor, or the Pale Hose are going around Walt and talking to young Williams. What do the masses think of the veracity of this rumor? And finally, will the Reds get Dodger prospects in the deal?

Christian Arroyo doesn't do much for me. I do not think I would like him as a centerpiece for either Bruce or Cozart. I would rather hold than deal one of Bruce or Cozart, unless a couple other top 10 prospects were coming from San Francisco.

I doubt that Walt is ever 100% honest when asked about trade talks.

Gm's often say nothing is going on while in the middle of trade talks.. It's nothing new. Called playin your cards close to the vest.

I love the optimism in this throws, but I am planning on being disappointed. First, while Bruce's bat has been strong so far this year, teams know he's prone to long slumps, was bad the last few years, and that his defense has been below average. He's not going to bring back what most middle of the lineup sluggers will bring brack. Second, the teams that so far are interested in him, have little to offer, or won't be willing to offer anything big for him.

I know that Walt plays it close to the vest, I just don't think he tells outright lies, which according to the story, this would be. If there was something going on with Bruce, or any other Red, he'd say something like there is nothing close to happening - in this case he said we've had no calls on players. So I just don't buy the story at this point. I could be wrong...and to quote Asia, "only time will tell."

Knowing the Reds have few players to spend money on next year, this would be a good opportunity to eat a portion of Bruce's salary for next season to maximize the return. I would think a half priced Bruce for this season and next would be attractive to a lot of teams being more than a rental.

Agree. Still, the Reds are now in better position. They have already saved money. They have a good pipeline of young players, draft choices, etc. Not desperate.

Last winter, they probably needed to cut payroll and other teams knew it. This time around, I think they can be more demanding.

Bruce is a hot hitter, he could slump, so timing is important. His defense is now a minus, but we all watch him play, he's not terrible in RF.

i don't expect a top prospect, but i'd like a very good one. Maybe two very good ones. I hope the Reds aren't too compliant this time.

    Re: Royals interested in Bruce?

I agree with others that any deal with the ChiSox for Bruce would have to include Anderson coming to the Reds and that ain't happening.

I really like Zimmer/Frazier as targets and would be willing to off the Tribe their choice of one (maybe two - Reds choice) young pitchers from among Lorenzen, Davis, Romano, Mahle, Travieso, Stephens, etc.. I might even be willing to include Stephenson if the Indians offered up another very useful asset from their side of things.

I'm probably the only one here, but if I'm gonna deal one of Reed, Stephenson or Garrett though, I think I'd approach the Suds Duds about a straight up Stephenson for Brett Phillips deal.

Back to Bruce. Do the Rangers or Astros have any interest in Jay (a Texan)? I'd do a straight up deal (or even sweeten it) for Lewis Brinson (TEX) or Colin Moran (HOU).

Remember when we had the embargo on Bleacher Report articles? Anything written by Robb Hoff should be treated the same. Just because you have internet access, doesn't make your opinion valid.

I don't think Stephenson and Bruce would be enough for Frazier. He is straight up mashing AA pitching.

Quite possible, but that's as high as I'd go.

Nice, but three of the least-interesting farms in baseball.

Jorge Bonifacio (brother of Emilio) interests me as a piece in a Bruce to Royals deal. I would need another prospect included.
