Who, at this point, needs Jay Bruce (or someone like him) as a corner OF, is willing to pay him for the rest of the season, and is in the hunt for a playoff spot?

I come up with seven teams. Boston's said they want another LH OF, so they'd be number 8.

I'd like to see the Reds and Dodgers make a deal. Alex Verdugo would be a fine "get". Or they could gamble and grab Puig.

The only disappointment about Bruce is that he had a bad injury headed into the prime of his career that sucked the production from his game for a significant period of time. It's not like one day he decided to be bad or something.

I am sure Bruce is trying his best.
However, people get judged on performance. Jr was not very popular on RZ in his later years when injuries took their toll.
I'm sure Hoover and Jumbo are trying their best too, but they are going to get judged harshly too.

Bruce has had two years of replacement level production, and has been paid a lot of money. He was loved here before he went into a tailspin. Probably the most popular player ever on RZ in his peak.

I would be fine giving Bruce a 5-6 year, 75-90m contract. It's actually perfect because he'll be worth that much over that time, and then you get only his, most likely, productive seasons. It also means there's a guy that can step in at 1B if Votto falls off a cliff in say 2-3 years (he is going to be 33 after all) .

1. Bruce is not a 1b, he simply can not play it without a ton of work. It really doesn't make sense at this stage of his career to focus on learning work. He just can't do it. I appreciate his effort last year, but it was a failed experiment.

2. Even if Bruce could play 1b, why invest so much in a potential backup 1b if Votto falls off the cliff. When Votto falls off the cliff, we are going to be pinched due to his salary. But that's ok. We gave Votto that contract to keep him around in our competitive window. I won't mind having him around in his golden years when he's less productive.

3. Bruce is such a high risk player. Why invest so much in him? You don't know if you are going to get 800 OPS Bruce or 720 OPS Bruce. And why sign Bruce to approximately age 35? That makes the risk even higher. Invest in the future, the young kids we have. Wouldn't you rather be able to extend Reed (or another young star) in the future as opposed to having an old Bruce on the roster?

Cannon --you're list is a list of guys that played in the PEDS era -- players are aging more like they used to -that's what PEDS do --they give you the fountain of youth. The context has changed. We're back to pre-1993 baseball. You're not adjusting for that.

If you want to pay a guy 18 million for 2.5 WINS -you can....you might get the same value from a good AAAA player. I'm not adverse to paying him -I believe the Reds have more money than they claim, but I think you could spend the money a lot better.

The John Kruk types are no longer the norm, and even the guys that are MASSIVELY overweight are healthier than they would have been 23 years ago.

For the full year? Or year to date? That's way too high if you mean year to date considering Trout is at 3 something.
