    12. Rod Stewart took this composition to #1 on the UK singles chart and to #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 1977. Rod released it as a double A-side single with "I Don't Want to Talk About It."

Nearly three decades later, Sheryl Crow charted with it and peaked at #14, seven spots higher that Hot Rod landed on the Hot 100. Sheryl also took it to #1 on the AC chart.

The first person to chart with the song was Keith Hampshire back in 1973, when he reached #70. The song was written in 1965 and then sold for the equivalent of about 40 bucks, leading to its first release in 1967, by P.P. Arnold, one of Ike and Tina Turner's backup singers. The song's author included it on his 1967 album but never released it as a single.

Can you name the song(of course, you can) AND the songwriter?

    13. The founding members of this band were looking for a name for their band in the early 70's. After passing on the name "Big Nardo in the Eighth Grade , " because that name would have been too long to fit on an album cover, they decided to name the band after a milk-spurting strap-on dildo that is referenced in William S Burroughs' groundbreaking 1959 satirical novel "Naked Lunch." The dildo's name appears in a movie within the book.

So, yeah, what 70's band took its name from a rubber dick ?

    Bonham wasn't singing either.

I was thinking that, as well ! I've done a a little drumming(pretty poorly, I might add) and I can't image how much more drumming, while singing, ramps up the level of diifficulty.

    14. This song's inspiration was the songwriter's girlfriend, a woman by the name of Cathy Smith, who the writer suspected was cheating on him at the time. The song lyrics speak to his fear of her infidelity and the title refers both to the time of night she goes out to a party to potentially cheat and also the nickname for the man/ men that might be involved. Btw, the Cathy Smith story didn't end with this song. She was linked to the drug overdose of comedian , John Belushi, some eight years after the song's release, adding an even darker layer to the history of the song.

Pretty dark subject matter for one of the 70's most recognizable songs. It was the singer/songwriter's only #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the end, the songwriter got a #1 hit and Cathy Smith got a 15 month prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter. Can you name the song?

“Sundown” by Gordon Lightfoot. One of my favorites.

    15. This is a He-said/ She-said story. He said, "Packing up, shacking up is all you want to do." She said, "I loved you years ago. I tell myself you never loved me, no . "

What he said was the first release and a top ten single off a legendary album that spent 31 weeks at the top of the charts. What she said was booted from the album and relegated to the B-side of his hit song about her. DAGGER!!!

Her song was pretty much lost to time for nearly two decades, until 1997, when she finally got a chance to look him in the eyes on stage and singe him with those haunting words from long ago. Her song has become a powerful breakup anthem for women everywhere. The inspiration for the tune was the name of a town she saw on a freeway sign, while driving through Maryland. In her mind, the name symbolized an idealized relationship that she and her one time lover could have had.

16.When the aforementioned #1 hit , "Sundown, " by Gordon Lightfoot reached the top of the charts for a week in the summer of '74 , it knocked a song out of the top spot that was sung by a band from Cincinnati. That Cincinnati-based band was formed in 1965, and toured with the Osmonds in the early 70's before getting their big break and having a #1 smash hit in '74.

Can you name the Cincinnati-based band and the song that was knocked out of the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 by Gordon Lightfoot and "Sundown" in June of 1974?

    What's her song?

I saw Fleetwood Mac on this '97 tour. I read that there was one show during this tour in which Nicks completely froze up on this song, and with her back to the crowd, began sobbing uncontrollably. She had to be escorted off stage , with Buckingham singing the last verse of the song. The emotions were real with this one.

Speaking of frozen love , if you've never heard the Buckingham-Nicks song, "Frozen Love," do yourself a favor and listen to it. It's fantastic! The whole Buckingham-Nicks album is amazing.
